Co-operations with India
Potsdam Institute of Inland Fisheries enters into longterm co-operations with two Indian Universities
Inland fisheries and fish farming are of great importance for the food supply in India. The Institute of Inland Fisheries has been active in four states in the north-east of the country since 2021 as part of a project implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Indian Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MOEFCC). The IfB supports Indian partners primarily in the further development of research capacities and knowledge management in relation to fish ecology, fisheries management and fish farming. Among other things, this is done by organising joint thematic workshops and teaching events.
In March, for example, methodological principles for predicting the susceptibility of fish species with different habitat requirements to temperature increases and changes in discharge conditions in rivers in the Himalayan foothills were developed and practised at a working meeting. This was followed by joint lectures and an exchange of knowledge on fish ecology and the assessment of stocks used for fishing. In connection with these events, agreements were signed for long-term cooperation with Don Bosco University in the state of Assam and Manipur University.
